The Survey on Language Use of the Population 2023-24(EULP) is an official statistical activity that was conducted between the last week of September and March 2024, and is part of the Annual Statistical Action Programme. The 2023 edition is the fifth round of this survey, which had previously been carried out in 2003, 2008, 2013, and 2018. The aim of the EULP is to identify linguistic affiliation and the use of Catalan as well as other languages in the various personal interaction spaces of the Catalan population, with a particular focus on the specific use of Catalan. The data from the EULP can be used to plan language policies and also serve to launch and assess actions regarding the social use of language. The EULP targets individuals over 15 years of age who are included in the Population Register of Catalonia, and approximately 9,000 people across the territory are interviewed.
The survey is carried out by the Opinòmetre Institute through an online questionnaire, by telephone or face-to-face interviews. The most recent release of this survey was published in November 2024 on the website of the Statistical Institute of Catalonia (IDESCAT).
